Workshop Takeway Messages

The ICSRI 2019 awareness workshop brought intense discussion on the need for robust, secure and scalable Research Infrastructures to support all digital sciences as ICT, Data Science and algorithmics, computer science, Robotics..etc.  This infrastructure under the European support and strategic guidance will ensure the access to all researchers in those disciplines to run research experiments to validate new inventions and innovations that will shape the future  of new generation of networks and technologies, but also the new innovative services build on top of efficient and accurate data based analytics and robotics under the digital AI era.

The workshop confronted different views from European member states strategy policy makers and the research comunities, it also looked at the existing research experimentation in digital sciences strategies in other continents,  and It apears that this is the good moment to define clear correlations between digiral e-infrastructures and digital Research infrastructure to support research activities of digital ICT, computation Data and robotics scientists.

The Policy makers from the French High education, research and innovation Ministry, the EU DG Connect e-Infrastructure Unit, the EU ESFRI SWG-DIGIT, the EU E-IRG, the EU JRC, American MGHPCC and the digital science researchers community  exchanged during the panel session to deliver the last takeway messages of the workshop. More actions will follow this workshop to align the vision and confort the strategic construction of joint european research  infrastructure to support experimentations of digital ICT and computation sciences. A clear definition by digital ICT and compuation scientists of the scientific experiments and measurements in digital sciences is needed, and a harmonised view by research and innovation strategic policy makers of the interaction between digital e-infrastrctures, research infrastructures for digital sciences and industrial digital infrastructures has to be drawn and adapted following the member states and the european research and innovation strategy.

Workshop Objectives reminder

In the fast and growing digital society, Information and Communication sciences needs more than ever new and strong tools to support experimentations to validate the new scientific inventions.  As stated by the French founder of the experimental medicine Claude Bernard (1813-1878)  "Experimentation is an active Science", this Workshop will be the place to raise awareness of the ICT and digital scientists and policy makers communities on the needs and requirements of Research  Infrastructures in ICT and digital  sciences  to better respond to the scientific needs to validate efficiently and more realistically their research findings and also solve new complex problems. The workshop with the participation of French and European representatives, will address those questions, but not limited to:

- What does a Research Infrastructure bring to a scientific experimentation of the Information and Communication research?

- How does Research Infrastructures interact with e-infrastructures?

- How can research infrastructures in Europe and in the world contribute to the scientific and innovation excellence?
